The Board of Directors

 

The Board of Directors consists of no less than twelve and no more than twenty members, elected by the membership to a term of three years. Officers — the President, Vice President,  Secretary, and Treasurer — are elected annually for a term of one year. The immediate predecessor of the current   president also serves on the executive board. Current officers and members are:

Staff

Laura McPherson,  Executive Director, monitors progress of programs and services, supervises paid and nonpaid staff, implements daily operations, coordinates resources, monitors financial activities, and executes board policy.

Cheryl Tate, Administrative Assistant, works directly with patrons and volunteers, and is responsible for publications, data entry, scheduling, referrals, public information, and organization.

Adjunct staff includes  Martha Fitzwater, artist in residence

Teachers

TeacherThe Council contracts with local and regional experts to teach classes and workshops. Evening classes are taught from September to May. The Council offers a summer schedule of more than 100 classes for children, including drawing, painting, pottery, drama, crafts, writing, music, preschool, and cooking. The Emilly Williams Endowment funds two annual workshops which feature nationally known artists. The Council hires 20-25 teachers, class aides, directors, and guest artists annually.

Volunteers

Volunteers are one of the Council's greatest assets. A pool of over 200 volunteers donate more than 5,000 hours annually. Volunteers may serve in many capacities and are considered valuable members of the organization. To learn about volunteer participation, call (620) 221-2161 ext 10

Artists

ArtistArtists of all disciplines benefit from the Council's varied activities. Visual artists may teach, exhibit, or promote their work. Performance opportunities and teaching are available for musicians and dramatists. Writers, craftpersons, historians, and other artists benefit from networking, referrals, and promotion by the Council.

Patrons

Persons within the Council's south central Kansas geographic service area contribute through financial support, in-kind donations of goods and services, volunteer efforts, and program participation.
